We had a fantastic day on Tuesday May 14th in Ballinasloe for our Sponsored Walk for St Teresa’s Special School. Our Community Health Workers worked in collaboration with Galway Rural Development to organise the event.
The fundraising cards and raffle on the day brought in an amazing 4,00 euro of donations for the school! The fundraiser was organised by the county team of Community Health workers, specifically Geraldine Ward, who worked closely in collaboration with Karyn Gavin of Galway Rural Development. It was an incredible day focused on inclusion and increasing awareness of Autism in our community, and the incredible work of services and supports like St Teresa’s Special School.
The walk began in the town and ended up in Creagh by St Teresa’s Special school. There was a brilliant turnout, and thankfully the rain held off. Participants of the walk wore blue to show their support for autism. A special thanks go to the parents, teachers and pupils of St Teresa’s who gave the walkers a very lovey welcome at the end of their sponsored walk. After the walk, there were a few words from Geraldine Ward, Karyn Gavin, Margaret O’Riada, and the principal of St Teresa’s Anita O’Reilly. Galway Traveller Movement staff organised a raffle and refreshments at the end of the walk, and were so grateful for the support of local businesses who donated raffle prizes. We had a great turnout and thankfully the rain stayed away.
